What does it take to be a ranger? Being a patrol leader means making critical decisions that take your team through to successfully achieve the required objective.
It means looking after your team and ensuring that they get sufficient encouragement to maintain their moral courage and integrity. It means ensuring that your team are properly equipped and mentally prepared for the task at hand. Often all of this has to be undertaken within a split second due to the constantly changing dynamics of patrolling.
Africa’s conservation efforts will amount to little if we do not increase our support for the ranger teams tackling the current onslaught of poaching and environmental crime that is escalating across the continent.
