What does it take to be a ranger? It takes compassion and determination to keep on going out into the field on a daily search to monitor the rhino that you have been charged with protecting.
It takes a deep knowledge and understanding of the protected area where you work and knowledge of the movements and habits of the rhino to protect them from the savage brutality of poaching. Sometimes it even means having close and very dangerous encounters with the animals and yet, still be able to laugh about it and stay totally committed to saving them!
The world gets excited once a year about World Ranger Day but actually the rangers should be supported everyday given the challenges and risks that they face in protecting Africa’s wildlife and wild places.
